5 out of 5 stars Good Evening this is the Monkey News.   January 10, 2007

I got this for Christmas and read it on Christmas day and Boxing day laughing all the way. Particular highlights are Pilkington's Monkey News story about the zoo keeper who took his mate the monkey home at night with him, and Pilkington's general inability to grasp the non-literal meanings behind popular phrases like "people in glass houses...". Which he thinks means you shouldn't go chucking stuff about.

5 out of 5 stars Six Stars   September 27, 2006

I bought this book, not really expecting much from it. Boy was I surprised, it is easily the funniest book I have ever read, when I say read it I really mean devoured it. The book reveals an interesting contrast between the ideas of Karl (I'm still not convinced that he believes what he's saying) and the logic, and obvious intelligence, of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant in an extremely funny way. I would thoroughly recommend the book, I would give it 6 stars if I could.

5 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable   October 5, 2006

I don't normally write reviews and I have no idea who this man is, but I bought the book on the strength of the Ricky Gervais endorsement. I am so pleased that I did too, because it is immensely funny to read and I am really enjoying it so far (page 84) - so many hilarious philosophies from Karl, and so much banter with Gervais and Merchant - this is comedy gold.
Surprisingly it is one of the best books I read this year!
Thank you Karl!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant   April 26, 2010

I allready heard all of the podcast, but this is still just brilliant :P
So funny and weird... I'm surely gonna buy the follow up ;)

5 out of 5 stars Very Funny - You don't need to be a fan of the office   June 9, 2009
P. J. Bragg (Bristol and Spain)
At my advanced age (40) there are very few books nowadays that get me literally laughing out loud. This is one of them.

Everybody knows by now that this is the transcript of the podcast of the radio show. I haven't heard them but it appears they have lost none of their comedy impact by being issued in book form.

The only slight bitter aftertaste is that you do get the impression that a lot of the humour is derived from Steve and Ricky (especially) being so vicious and scathing in their putting down of Karl's ridiculous (although endearing) opinions and theories. A lot of the laughing appears to be at him, not with him.

I found the book a little too short but nevertheless I highly recommend it.
